Essay describing my experience as a NSS volunteer
As we all know, National Service Scheme, is a program with youth at its center to mentor the society to bring social awareness for betterment in welfare and development of the people.
I am not sure, if I (as part of this whole team) have brought any considerable change in society with NSS or not, but I am very much sure that NSS has brought a considerable change in me through social service.
Every one of us have, by default a certain skills set, but to be successful we have to continuously up-skill and re-skill. As a student, we have different platforms to learn and showcase our skill when it comes to professional or technical skills in this digital era, but for understanding and learning things like dignity of Labour or working in hierarchy, I think NSS is the best possible platform at our immediate reach.
As a "Best Volunteer" of NSS Annual Special Camp, I would like to share how NSS gave me opportunity to learn, up- skill and re-skill certain skills which are not thought any where but are to learnt with time and experience.
Dignity Of Labour:-
We take for granted, thinking that it's some one else responsibility to keep our spaces clean and tidy. Furthermore we dislike the people who work for us, cleaning the public places. Through schemes like Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Swachhata Pakhwada and Swachhata Hi Seva we will not only understand the importance of Hygiene but most importantly we understand the Dignity Of Labour.
Team Spirit:-
NSS is always a team effort. We will meet different types of people and come across different opinions. This gives us a chance to learn to respect the others opinions, in a way we develop as a team and get work together with team spirit.
Leadership Skills:-
There is a saying that only a good team member can become a good team leader. As we have chance to learn good spirit in NSS, we equally have chance to learn Leadership Skills by taking part in events like National Youth Parliament and Annual Special Camp.
Better Understanding Of The Working Hierarchy In An Organisation:-
We can have wonderful leadership and team spirit, but if we don't understand the due process in working hierarchy, we cannot deliver our best. The best part in working in hierarchy is we get to know about the checks and balances in effective discharge of duties.
Balance Of Self And Social Service:-
This is the most important thing to be learnt here. If we don't strike a correct balance between our priorities we may end up in a messy situation. And in NSS we have a opportunity to learn to make this correct balance.
After two years with NSS, learning many things, making some wonderful friends and seeing the situations, problems and solutions around me, I am better person than before ready to start my professional career and with confidence I can say that "Service is not any more a part of life, but it's a way of life ".
